Frequently Asked Questions:

  1.     What time does school start?

Children should arrive at the academy no earlier than 8.30am. The playground will be supervised by a member of staff from 8.30-8.40am. At 8.40am a whistle will signal for all children to line up and be taken into class by their class teacher.

  1.     When can I buy uniform?

School jumpers and cardigans can be bought from the school office. Polo shirts, skirts, trousers and PE kit can be bought from any retailer.

  1.     How do I book a holiday?

We do not encourage parents to book holidays during term time as this causes disruption to the children’s education. Holiday requests will be unauthorised unless there is an exceptional circumstance which has been discussed with the Headteacher. Please ask for a holiday form at the office and make an appointment to see the Headteacher.

  1.     What should I do if I am worried that my child is being bullied?

Children have regular PSHCE sessions where they learn about how to interact positively with the other children.

In the first instance, speak to your child’s class teacher. If bullying recurs then please make an appointment at the office to see the Deputy Headteacher. Please talk to us as soon as you are concerned. We take bullying very seriously. We have an anti-bullying policy that we are happy to talk parents through.

  1.     Can my child walk to school alone?

Children in Year 5 and Year 6 will be allowed to walk home alone with written permission. Parents who would like their children to walk to school, or walk home, alone must have given a signed consent form to the academy office. All other children must be collected from the playground at the end of the school day. No child will be allowed to leave the school premises unless they have written permission to walk home or the class teacher has seen the adult who is collecting them.

  1.     What should I put in my child’s packed lunch?

We encourage parents to provide a healthy meal each day for their child. Sweets and chocolate bars are not allowed.

 

  1.     What do I do if my child has lost a piece of clothing?

We strongly advise that all children’s clothing is clearly named. A lost property box is located inside the Academy and will be displayed outside at the end of each half term for parents to look through. If you would like to look through the lost property before the end of each half term, please just ask in the school office.

  1.     When will my child start in Reception?

In East Sussex schools, all children are able to start primary school during the Autumn term of the school year in which they reach 5 years of age. The children’s entry is staggered over the course of one week; details will be given before admission.

  1.     Can I bring toys in to school?

We strongly advise that no expensive items are ever brought in from home. There is no need to bring equipment for playtime as this is provided by the academy.

  1.     What is the best time to talk to the teacher if I have a question?

It is best to speak to the teacher as you drop your child off in the morning; as you collect them from the playground in the afternoon or make an appointment through the school office to have a chat after school.

  1.     Is there before and after school provision?

The school operates a Breakfast Club between 7:30 am and 8.30 am for pupils in Reception to Year 6. There are also numerous after school clubs, these vary each term, and details will be provided upon admission. Please ask the school office for more information.

  1.     How can parents get involved?

Parents can support their children by reading with them every night, and encouraging them with their homework. Additionally we organise two Parents consultation evenings each year for you to find out more information about how your child is progressing. If you have any specific questions, please speak with your child’s class teacher.
